Seoul Fashion Week SS16

Seoul, South Korea is a place to gain huge style inspiration, whether it be for clothing, hair or beauty. Whether you're feeling short hair, long hair or coloured hair; an edgy or sophisticated look, the people of Seoul know how to do it.

After keeping an eye on the runways and the street style, I'm suddenly having the urge to completely change my wardrobe and my look.

Here are some of our favourite looks from this week:

Hair Forecast A/W 16/17- [Earthy Naturals]

This season is all about Earthy Natural hair.

Think Mother Nature meets hair!  Enhance your natural beauty with rich and warm tones that mimic fallen autumn leaves, think terracotta, brassy reds, ashy blondes and deep warm chocolates to be bang on trend for this A/W 16.

Style your ‘natural’ new colour with 1970’s vibe big, curly locks and an untamed, backcombed finishing.

The cold and windy season is extremely damaging to your hair. Ensure you maintain your new locks by popping in to ‘Evoke Creative Hair’ for a super conditioning hair treatment.

Finish your look off with salt spray or curl enhancing sprays to keep your locks voluminous and texturized as thick and healthy hair with a natural shine or soft wooly texture is the look of the season.

Rose Quartz Hair

The colour predicting gods Pantone have once again made its influential Colour of the Year prediction for the months ahead, with Rose Quartz and Serenity being chosen as the favoured shades for 2016. These colours influence everything from colour of cars to clothes on the runway and hair colour is no different, the latest hot trend is pastel pink hair representing the rose quartz.

Rose Quartz and Serenity provide a welcome ‘contrast to the current restless and hectic lives people are living right now’, Pantone explains. Evoking a sense of calmness, fluidity and balance, the fusion of these shades provide the perfect antidote to busy modern life.

For the rose quartz hair colour trend it’s playful, it's light years away from the boring everyday hair colour. With all the current celebrities colouring their hair pink including Kylie Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora. At Evoke we love the pastel pink hair trend at the weekend one of our faithful clients went this lovely pastel pink.

Graduation Styles

Is your Graduation around the corner? If so, then take a look at our favourite cap friendly Graduation hairstyles...

Your Graduation should a day full of tons of pictures and a great deal of celebrations - not worrying about the one thing that seems to cause the biggest dilemma on the day, how to style our hair underneath the cap!

Don’t get us wrong, we appreciate that wearing the cap that day is a great honour but it doesn’t help us face the fact that we will undoubtedly spend hours on perfecting the flawless look for it to be ruined by a big hat! Don’t worry, we are here to help; we have discovered the styles that not only fit perfectly under the cap but also look incredibly endearing!

Always assumed you can’t create this look because you haven’t just completed a degree in the fishtail? Well, we’ve all be fooled as surprisingly it’s actually rather simple! We are all aware of how long the Graduation day can be dragged out for and this is what makes the fishtail the ideal style as it’s the hairstyle that tends to look better the messier it gets, just what we need! Unlike the French plait which starts at the top of the head the fishtail works best at the nape of your neck, perfect for the placement of the cap.

1.       Start by pulling your hair back into a low, sleek ponytail with a disposable band

2.       Divide the ponytail into two equal sections

3.       Part a half-inch section of hair from the outside of the left ponytail

4.       Pull this piece of hair over the top of the left ponytail to the right ponytail

5.       Following this, separate a half-inch section of hair this time outside of the right ponytail

6.        Pull this piece over the top of the right ponytail to the left

7.       Duplicate this until your run out hair

8.       When you are finished plaiting secure the end with another elastic band

9.     Finish by cutting out the initial band at the nape of your neck, altering the hair so that there is no crease. Don’t be afraid to pull at the plait so it appears thicker and more relaxed

Tousled waves

Recognised as the hottest hairstyle of the summer, cascading layered curls can be achieved whether you rock a long style or even a bob and the best of it is, is that it can be worn in a relaxed manner taking away any additional stress that you definitely will not be needing on the day. It’s as easy as this, the night before your Graduation twist and pin up your hair in small sections. In the morning remove the pins and finger-comb through, adding extra curls with a curling tong if needed, and that’s it hair done!

A low bun

At first you may argue that this style may be a tad too boring for one of the biggest days of your life but trust us, mature and minimalistic hairstyles like the low bun, pinned low at the nape of your neck will complement your cap and gown immaculately. Incredibly simple to create it very much suits you’re sure to be rushed morning, all you will need is a hairbrush, hairspray and some hair grips. Begin with a centre parting, brush your hair into a low ponytail and secure with a band. Then twist your ponytail around the band to create a bun and secure with pins. If you’re not 100% happy with the completely sleek look, pull a few of your loose ends from the bun and complete with hairspray.  Another plus to this look is that it is easily persevered so if it’s in your plans to carry on the celebrations straight after the ceremony this style is the one for you as you won’t have to spare a thought to redoing your hair.

Good luck with which ever style you decide to rock, enjoy your hair stress free day and many congratulations!

Welcome back you beautiful bunch!

If you follow me on Instagram (@lanaskyecaven) then you're bound to be aware that I recently had my hair done! No, it wasn't just a bouncy blow dry or a trim, this time I went all out.

I've only ever had colour on my hair once before, mainly because my mam has always told me to embrace my natural colour, but I fancied a change.

'Evoke Creative Hair' is located on 9 Kings Walk in the very heart of Nottingham.

I knew I was in safe hands the minute I walked through the door.

Within seconds I was offered a drink of my choosing and seated in an extremely comfy chair (believe me, this is so important when you know you're going to be in the same spot for hours on end).

I had a consultation with Senior Stylist Ling before any products touched my head. This for me was so reassuring, I can't think of anything worse than a hairdresser diving in without properly understanding what their customer wants.

Not long after this, I was introduced to Director Seno and Technician Jamila. All three of these amazing people spent over 5 hours of their day working on and perfecting my hair. Hats off to them!

This was the result...

I promise you I'm not just saying it. I am well and truly obsessed with my new hair do.

One thing a lot of people don't know about 'Evoke', is that they're also home to premium Menswear label '&Blanc Fashion'.

Their ethos is simple - to promote fresh and exciting independent fashion brands, whilst providing customers with a retail experience they will never forget. They achieve this through their unique combination of fashion clothing, hair styling and coffee.

'Evoke' and '&Blanc' see bridging the gap between hair styling and fashion as their key drive and mission. After being in their space for multiple hours, I've realised that it really does work.

The staff are friendly and polite from the outset. This in itself makes a massive difference.

If you live in or are perhaps visiting Nottingham - I implore you to pop in, even if its just to have a look around their store which is located downstairs. As for the hair side of things, if you're thinking about getting anything done then I couldn't recommend 'Evoke' enough!

Coachella 2016 Hair Trends

This years Coachella provided us with some serious hair inspiration, and we are loving the rainbow hair and 90's double bun.

First of all, the double bun! Many of our favourite celebs were rocking the double bun this year taking inspiration from a very 90's Gwen Stafani. We have three different styles to talk about, relaxed and messy, elegant and pretty and bold and daring! First off we have Kendall Jenner's brunette buns which were a relaxed, easy going look very achievable and wearable to any festivals you may be attending this year. We also saw style blogger Chiara Ferragni giving us some half up, half down double buns, perfect for both long and short hair if you want something a little more feminine.

Finally we adored Katy Perry's candy floss pink buns which were slick, smooth and tidy. If you're wanting to go bold this summer then that is definitely the look for you! You can achieve any of these three looks this festival season all you will need is a brush, some hair ties and some Schwarzkopf Silhouette hairspray to hold everything in place!

Tip: You can add glitter to your roots if you want a little something special to your look.

Lastly we saw some amazing rainbow braids from Kylie Jenner. Following on from our love of Irene Kim's rainbow hair we think after seeing Kylie's bold braids the multicoloured style will be all the rage this season!

I never thought I’d dye my hair an ‘unnatural’ colour again after the dramas of being a teenager and experimenting with every hair colour under the sun. Each one looking worse than the last time I might add. But, I’m a grown up now and I can go to proper salons and get proper hairdressers to sort my hair out and I’ve realised that this is 100% the best way to go. I’ll never home-dye my hair again, it’s just not worth the stress, the mess and the disappointing results.

was invited down to Evoke Creative Hair in Nottingham to have a little colour spruce up and I was really excited. I wanted a change from my ombre dip dye that I’ve been rocking for almost a year. I originally planned to still keep the ombre but go for a grey dip dye. But, we decided to go the whole way and go grey all over with a few surprise snippets of under colour. I chose purple, blue and turquoise – mermaid colours.

he salon is really really cool, there’s a men’s clothing store tucked away in the basement near the hair wash basins and it’s realy industrial and cool. I did get a little bit lonely after only looking at myself in a mirror for about 6 hours but when I was able to sit upstairs and get my hair cut after my colour was done I could really appreciate how cool the salon is. It’s also a barbers and I think it’s more popular for this than for girls’ hair but I’ll definitely be going back when my roots come through and getting a touch up and maybe even another colour. The beauty with grey hair is my hair will fade to a light blonde and then I can add whatever pastel shade I fancy on top! What’s next? I won’t lie to you, I’ll probably indulge my inner 14 year old and go for pink hair because I think I’ve always secretly wanted it!

’d massively recommend Evoke for stripping out colour and taking you from brown to grey in one sitting. They know exactly what they’re doing and my hair’s still in great condition. We used a lower strength of bleach and did two applications to make sure my hair still stayed healthy and it sure still is as healthy as it was when I walked in. It’s probably in better condition and it’s definitely looks 100% better.

Irene Kim: Our Rainbow Haired Muse

Irene Kim: Our Rainbow Haired Muse

Model and social media IT-girl, Irene Kim is our latest hair inspiration here at Evoke Creative Hair. Her "rainbow hair" is something that's always captured the hearts of street style photographers across the globe. The contrast of the bright colours against her jet black hair truly make a bold statement.

Born in Seattle, but currently living & working in Seoul as a TV personality and model; Kim says her hair has "become my second skin. People in Korea are so used to my hair being rainbow that it's how they recognise me." Styled and coloured by Korean hair stylist, Sunwoo Kim, who aims for the perfect combination of ombré and gradation.

But despite her love for vibrant hair colour, Kim believes the best beauty trick is "less is more." All you need is "some light foundation, brows and a lip tint." And, let's be honest, will hair like hers, you wouldn't need heavy make-up or a bold outfit to leave an impression.

Here at the Evoke salon, we want to prepare you for the summer, so if you dare to go bold. Head into store for a free consultation, and the latest "rainbow hair."

Last week, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from Eliane Fernandes who's known for her online presence as fashion blogger, BlogDaelli.

Eliane decided to tackle the "Granny Hair" trend. It's the unlikely hair tend of the year, but over the past few months, it's been inescapable. Silver hair hues are taking social media, with bloggers and celebrities embracing the grey that we've always seemed to loathe. Hair stylists are noticing a rise in requests for this modern hair trend, and it's safe to say, the results are always amazing. Furthermore, not only has this trend taken over women's hair, it's also been adapted by many male celebrities too. George Clooney, for example, has always been known to rock the 'Silver Stallion' look, and has never let his age get in the way of his looks. Other celebrities such as BigBang's T.O.P and model Lucky Blue Smith have also proven that whiter hair can look amazing.

It has the ability to suit almost every hair style or length and the hues can be adopted to best suit your skin tone; ranging from dark grey to striking silver.

We were incredibly happy that Eliane was pleased with her transformation, and thankful for all her kind words regarding our salon.

    Digital Perm: How It Works

    What is a digital perm?

A digital perm is a new technique of creating a shiny and bouncy wave to your hair.
As a new trend-setting hairstyling treatment, the digital perm uses temperature controlled rods that are all powered by a machine with a digital display(hence the name).

The biggest difference between other perms techniques and the digital perm is the shape and texture of the wave created.
A normal perm is known for creating very tight curls which were very popular in the 1980s and makes the waves more prominent when the hair is wet.

A digital perm creates the wave as if you have used a curling iron and makes the wave more prominent when the hair is dry against a normal perm.
Digital perms also thermally recondition the hair which is a similar process to a straightening perm. Your hair will often feel softer, smoother and shinier after digital perm treatment if you don't have any other chemical process.

Q, Will a digital perm damage my hair?

Digital Perm would damage your hair to some extent which depends on the current condition of your hair. Digital Perm inolves chemical treatments and the heating process, through it's gentle thermal reconditions your hair; leaving it smooth and shiny.

Q, How long does the process take?

It normally takes approximately 3 hours, depending on your hair condition, length and density. Your hair may have to be cut beforehand so that Digital Perm would create nicer and cleaner waves.

Q, How long does the wave/curls last?

It also depends on the condition of your hair and the style you want to achieve.

If the hair condition is good then it normally would last around 3-6 months.

Q, Does a digital perm work on bleached hair?

By using a solution for highly damaged hair, it is possible to do a Digital Perm on bleached hair but the results will not be as nice as unbleached hair. You may find the texture to be quite rough.

Q, Is it suitable for short hair?

Digital Perm is normally suitable for medium to long hair. If there is not enough length, the digital perm will not to able to create big waves.

Q, Does a digital perm give extra the volume from the roots?

Digital Perm gives little volume to the root of the hair. It cannot be applied too close to your scalp for safety reasons, due it it's use of heated rods.

    Q. Can I have permanent colour and Digital Perm done at the same time?

We don't recommend applying both at the same time. However, semi-permanent colour is applicable and permanent colour can be applied only for the root touch-up. It doesn't give much damage to you hair in this way.

    Q. How often can I have digital permdone?

It depends on your hair condition Digital Perm normally lasts for 3-6 months.

Q.How long do I have to wait before shampooing?

You need to wait 48 hours to neutralise your hair. If your hair gets wet, you should dry your hair immediately.
